Last week I was catching up with a friend, and as we were sipping our coffees I mentioned that I worked for a ‘transformative’ company. Naturally, he gave me a funny look and replied, “What do you mean? Give me an example of what your company does to help me understand what you’re ‘transforming’?” As you can imagine, his question caught me off-guard and I rambled about how we’re changing the landscape of payments and some other generic response. But my friend continued to press me, and in a moment of clarity I started to understand exactly what was needed here. Context. Actual, concrete examples of the product that we have created and who we are serving with it.
I began asking him specific questions that he could relate to, “In your life, when have you been paid a ‘cashback’ for free?” His immediate response was when he makes a purchase on his credit card. To which I said, “Don’t you pay a monthly or yearly fee?” His answer was yes, and that it was not cheap. “Right, so it’s not ‘free’.”
In fact for the majority of Canadians, this is their only avenue to get cashback rewards. But what about the ones that aren’t willing to pay an annual fee because they don’t use it enough to justify the cost, regardless of the cashback?
Paytm is providing every Canadian the opportunity to access a cashback, with a reputable financial services firm, and you pay nothing for it. So tell me, does this meet your definition of transformative ‘cause it meets mine?
In January of this year, we launched a 2% cashback promotion. It was given to every Paytm customer when they made a bill payment to any of our 5,000 plus billers. The customer engagement surged especially within the last week of the month since so many customers took advantage of our 2% cashback promotion. With February already here, we were at the whiteboard brainstorming on what our next promotion should be to top this amazing promotion. But we already knew the answer, it’s simple really. A promotion that just doesn’t end!
March 17th marks our one-year anniversary of launching the Paytm app in Canada. And with that, I’m extremely excited to announce that we will launch our revamped Paytm Rewards. As simple as it is to pay a bill and receive a cashback, imagine receiving a reward for just doing everyday things. This feature is still in the early stages so I’m just going to tease you about it, but it’s going to be mind-blowing.
