UPDATE: Please be aware that there are new convenience fees applied to Property Tax bill payments. See here for more info.

Paying your property taxes just got a lot more rewarding! Did you know that there are a number of Canadian towns and cities that don’t have the luxury of allowing their residents to pay their property taxes or utility bills with a credit card? Naturally, we wanted to change that. So, we had a team dedicated to onboarding many of the towns and cities across Canada. Now, you can pay your property taxes using your credit card on the Paytm Canada app!

We are focused on providing the best bill payment experience possible in Canada. And, we couldn’t do that without focusing on a big expense like Property Taxes.

So. Many. Rewards.

Why would you want to pay your property taxes through Paytm Canada? Well, for starters your property taxes are probably one of your biggest bills payments, which means that you can collect a lot of points by paying it through our app. Not only will you get Paytm Points, but when you pay a bill using your credit card on the Paytm Canada app, you’ll also rack up credit cards points too! Plus, when you use this hack you can actually triple dip on points.

How To Pay Your Property Taxes Through Paytm

From the App home page, click on the “Taxes” icon. You’ll see a list of providers that you can choose from. If you don’t see your provider, look them up in the search bar. Click on your provider, enter your account number and your bill amount. Then follow the simple steps to add your preferred payment method (we accept everything from a credit/debit cards, bank account and Paytm Cash) to proceed to pay your bill.

Transaction & Points Limits

We have transaction and Points limits in place to keep out fraudulent users, who attempt to abuse the service that we provide. The following transaction limits are in place for paying your bills with Paytm:

Limits 24 hour period 7 day period 30 day period
Number of transactions 5 10 15
Bill payments made using a credit or debit card $3,000 $5,000 $7,000
Bill payments made using a bank account or Paytm Cash $5,000 $15,000 $20,000

With Paytm Canada you earn 1 Paytm Point for every $1 you spend on bill payments. However, there are limits on total number of Paytm Points that you can earn depending on what the transaction is for:

  • Utility Bills = 500 points per month
  • Tax Payment = 1,000 points per month
  • Credit Card Payments = 2,000 points per month
  • Tuition = 500 points per month
  • Other Bill Payments = 500 points per month

*Please note: the monthly points limits reset on the 1st of every month

So, to make the most of paying your taxes through the Paytm app, we recommend that you pay your property taxes in installments well before the due date. For example if you owe $3,000 worth of property taxes in April, we recommend that you should start paying it now in $1,000 installments. This way you can earn 1,000 points every month for 3 months, thus maximizing the amount of points you can earn for paying your taxes. Plus as a bonus, breaking up your tax bills makes its a lot easier to pay. 3 smaller payments is much more digestible than 1 lump sum.

Don’t See Your City or Town Listed?

Send us an email and let us know if you don’t see your town or city listed. We’re always working to add more partners in the Paytm Canada app, so that we can make it easy and rewarding for Canadians to pay ALL their bills through our app.

Paying your property taxes has never been easier or more rewarding! So what are you waiting for? Head over to the App Store or Google Play Store and download the Paytm Canada app for free. New customers will collect 1,000 Welcome Paytm Points just for signing up!

Is any surcharge if I pay my property taxes, credit card payment and utilities through MasterCard?

Hi Jacqueline,
When you use American Express, there is a convenience fee when you pay your Property Taxes. All other payment methods (eg: Mastercard, linked bank account and Paytm Cash) will not incur a surcharge.

Is there a surcharge for Visa?

Hi Mitchell, our app currently only accepts Visa Debit as a payment method. At this moment you will not be able to use your Visa credit card to pay bills. If you have further questions, please email us at care@paytm.ca 🙂

7000/ month is too low for property tax

Service New Brunswick is listed, but they say they will not accept PayTM. Can you reach out to them?

In the vancomycin area, property taxes can easily surpass $7000. Can the limits be increased (even slightly) so we don’t have to pay over months?? As well, my property tax bill surpasses $7k so there wouldn’t be room to pay any other bills in June….

Vancouver… Not vancomycin (autocorrect)

Got it 🙂 !

Hi Tom, there shouldnt be a limit for this payment. It may be flagged as the amount is high so our care team will need to see this bill in PDF form to leave a note on your account for future transactions. However, if you are referring to points limits, you can visit this article for more information on the points limits.

I only can get 2000 points maximum for a month for paying credit card ,even though I paid $3000?

Hi Zuojun, yes that is our points limits per month right now. Fore details please press here

Your max points accumulation is way to low to get any decent award
Further, you need to increase the bill payments limit… my typical Visa bill is in excess of 10K per month

Agreed. For us to take the extra time to come on your platform and pay a bill is an unnecessary step when one can just do it all from their bank account in one click.

Unless you find a way to increase the point limit /payment caps and offer the user a more lucrative reward system unfortunately I do not see a lot of us continuing to use your platform to split a 10k cc bill over 5 payments. Not only is it a huge waste of time but it also complicates our accounting creating even more work at the end of the year.

I hope you can fit this within your business model and continue to thrive because I do very much appreciate what you are doing with the app.

Hi Martha, we appreciate your feedback! If there is anything else we can do to make your experience better, please let us know by emailing us at care@paytm.ca. Thank

Hi there, send us an email and we will give you a run down of the process 🙂 Thanks!

I’d like to pay property taxes for Fredericton. All property tax in NB is paid through Service New Brunswick, which is listed as a vendor but the app won’t allow me to set up my property tax as a bill payment.

Hi Jessica, please send us an email at care@paytm.ca. We will take a look at the issue from the backend to see whats going on. Thanks!

I would like to pay my Property Taxes to the City of Grande Prairie in Alberta.

Can you please look into it.

Thank You.

Hi Al! If you are having issues adding a biller, please email our care team at care@paytm.ca so we can look into it for you! Thanks

How long it takes to pay property taxes using a credit card? (i.e. 1-2 business days) When do the Payee will receive the money? Thanks

Hi there! The typical processing-to-fulfillment time is 5-7 days depending on the amount that is paid. When paying through the Paytm app, please ensure that you are checking the ‘bill paid date’ prior to submitting your payment for the estimated fulfilment date 🙂

I would like to pay one lump sum tuition to University of Waterloo this coming Aug.
if I use MasterCard to pay it, I believe there is would not have convenience fee.

Will University of Waterloo be charged the service fee you and how much?

Hi Theresa, Education related bills may only be paid using Paytm Cash or a connected Debit account 🙂 If you have more questions about this, please email us at care@paytm.ca or visit our Help Centre for more information. Cheers

Just received an e-mail that we can’t pay property tax with CC anymore without a fee of 1.75%. Ok, so you have broken it. Looks like the service is getting worse over time – for me it was first the removal of Visa CC support. Now this. What is next?

I agree with Eugene. This will mean I will be using Paytm much less than I have in the past. Maybe not at all.

Hi Mark, the convenience fee is for payments towards property taxes only. This is not an extra charge from Paytm but from the card merchant. If you would like to avoid any additional fees, you can use Paytm cash or a bank account for no extra charge 🙂 Cheers

Paytm now charging an additional fee for property taxes. What’s the point of using them now? Their point systems are crappy

Hi there, we offer a points system for bills that you would otherwise not be able to collect points with 🙂 If you have suggestions on how we can improve our Rewards, please let us know by contacting our care team at care@paytm.ca. Cheers!
